Of the many things it isn’t (clean, sophisticated and pleasantly fragranced), Barceloneta most certainly does not lack in visual entertainment. This place is a smörgåsbord of Barcelonas weirdest comingling with international tourists, all looking to get trashed under the sun. Where beach bums, party goers and amateur surfers walk bare foot dodging the occasionnal cucaracha. A place where illegal Thai massagers might drive you insane (selling 15 minute massages for 5 euros not cleaning their hands once between clients…ew.) and where semi-pro skateboarders gather late evenings to pratice a few tricks.
Spend too much time on this beach and you might develop a thick indian accent (don’t ask).

What it is however is a nice place to sip (the most delicious) mojitos (I’ve ever tasted) and mingle with other tourists. It is also an excellent place to enjoy seafood for very cheap.
Go there.
But be reminded that wearing a bathing suit for men is…ehem…optional.
